Mid-Level Interaction Designer
We are seeking a mid-level/senior interaction designer to join the IDEO Boston location. Candidates should have 5+ years of experience, and a focus on hardware / software integration and physical interface design. Candidates should show strong visualization and prototyping skills for both graphical and tangible user interfaces, and a clear passion for combining the two worlds through the design of compelling experiences. Responsibilities

User Research and Usability Methods, The New England Institute of Art

The New England Institute of Art (NEiA) is seeking adjunct faculty members to teach a course in user research and usability methods in the Web Design & Interactive Media department. These positions will start part-time with the potential to go fulltime. All applicants must have a Master's degree to be considered.
In addition to having a keen interest in teaching, the instructor must have five or more years experience in user-centered design methodologies. We are currently seeking 2 Information Architects and a Usability Project Manager to join our tight-knit team. While both IA roles may include support for e-commerce, one will be a dedicated resource to support the Retail side of the business.

1. Information Architect on Staples Websites and internal information systems.

Projects might include updating the flow for user interactions on Staples.com, or creating the user flow for a microsite.

Retail projects might include mapping out the user flow for kiosks that customers use in the store, or interfaces that store associates might interact with to create a custom print order.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

As the ideal candidate for this position you must have a thorough grounding in information architecture and interaction design. You must be able to produce and refine brilliant ideas that work with existing solutions and be able to communicate these ideas easily.

You must be comfortable working in diverse teams while facilitating the development of design solutions. Above all, you must have a clear understanding of how to balance user needs and business drivers.

In this capacity you will:

• Identify key user-interaction requirements by participating in JAD sessions and other business requirement forums.

• Facilitate user interface definition sessions by leading teams through white boarding exercises and discussions.

• Pin-point important issues that may require further discovery research by collaborating with usability resources.

Requirements
Minimum of a Masters degree in Interaction Design, Cognitive Psychology, MIS, Industrial Design or related discipline required.

At least 4 years of information architecture/interaction design experience in a corporate or consulting environment required. Some background in e-commerce a definite plus.

Must be able to translate business strategies into conceptual diagrams, task flows, and site maps. Expertise in using Visio preferred.

Must be a strong presenter and communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.

Ability to lead high-level, cross-functional definition meetings that map out the user experience of new projects.

Strong understanding of computer platforms like AS400, client server, non web applications and related usability issues.

Understanding of usability testing practices and theory required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Management:
Usability project manager on Staples Retail IS customer and associate-facing systems. You will:
* Act as usability lead on various small, medium and large-sized systems projects.
* Organize and implement comprehensive research initiatives.
* Partner with business analysts to produce requirements documents and deliverables for projects.
* Organize research findings to serve as inputs for designs and task flows.
* Partner with information architects to develop & review system screen flows.

Research Execution:

User Experience Designer, Harvard University

Duties And Responsibilities This position works as part of the iCommons team to develop web-based tools and resources that enhance Harvard University's online student experience. These tools include a portal platform for providing and managing access to academic resources, as well as various modular components that provide for the authoring and delivery of academic content. The User Experience Designer will guide the teams' user interface development, placing an emphasis on usable designs founded on solid information architecture. This person will take a lead role in the design of iCommons tools and content, will collaborate with the development team on architectural issues concerning user interfaces, and lead the user interface design process. Will work with and advise client schools on design projects that make use of the iCommons tools and participate in other design tasks such as creating content for presentations, documentation, and the iCommons websites as needed. Ability to work hands-on by designing and coding user interfaces, and generating design standards documentation for developers is important.

Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree required. 7 years of relevant experience. Must be proficient in both graphic design and client-side development with demonstrated experience interfacing with application developers and clients. Demonstrated experience with content development and information design is essential. Must possess graphic design skills and the ability to create attractive-looking and usable interfaces for web applications. An understanding of the fundamentals of color theory, typography, and layout as they pertain to the Web is required. Must possess knowledge of web UI implementation with an emphasis on web standards (XHTML, CSS, DOM Scripting) and accessibility (Section 508, WCAG). Must be comfortable addressing cross-browser/-platform issues, and implementing workarounds. Fluent with Photoshop and Illustrator (or equivalents).
